Have you ever taken the time to open your PC tower. Oh yes, you can
take the cover off of it and it is safe. The geeks may tell you that its not recommended, but everyone needs to earn a living, even if some of us have to lie in order to do it. Let say your Modem is too slow. Now if you have dial up, and want to get a faster response out of your downloads, good luck with that!
Dial-up is Dial up and Dial up is SLOW!!! You want to improve your download time get a high-speed internet connection and save yourself some anguish and forget about the Modem upgrade for O.K., so you went out and got a high-speed internet connection (good for you tough guy) now open up that PC and let’s do some changing… Oh buy not so fast, don’t just stick your hands in there. Haven’t you ever heard of static electricity? Now discharge that finger of all the static before you kill the Motherboard dude! You ready… ok now find the circuit board that is hooked to the phone line and pull it out, gently now, pull gently and evenly across the top of it. Relax; it will pop out just give it time. Once it pops out open the new Modem and put it back in the same way the old one came out.
Now you are not done yet, look in the book. See that CD, that’s not just useless information, that is what they call the “Drivers” and you MUST have that. Slip that CD into the CD Rom and let Windows take over. You will have to be by the PC, because Windows needs your help to make selections that only humans can make (for now anyway).
Not so hard now is it… the main thing about changing any hardware on your PC is to remember that you always must be gentle and never introduce static to any part of you PC insides. You master that, buy a PC repair book you are going to be a hero to all your buddies at the club.
